Born 13 July 1945 in Prague.
He graduated from the Conservatory in 1970.
His first public jazz performance [was in] 1963 with Jiří Stivín and the group Jazztet at the Zábradlí Theater.
In 1967 [he was awarded] Laureate of the Prague Jazz International Contest of Young soloists.

He has played with:

Josef Vejvoda performed in Czechoslovak Radio for 15 years from 1972 to 1987. In Točr* and Jočr* [he performed] as a percussion player, and at that time he also wrote many jazz and other compositions which have been in the Radio Archives up to the present day. In the list are also CD's in which Joe Vejvoda also collatorated as a composer of music.

Josef Vejvoda Trio „ONE MINUTE DANCE“

Drummer Josef Vejvoda founded his trio in 1998, and its members are musicians approximately a quarter of a century younger: pianist Kryštof Marek, bass player Ondřej Štajnochr.

Josef Vejvoda is bound up with a hundred-and-fifty-year musical family tradition. In 1992, he revived "VEJVODA`S BAND." In 1995 he founded the SALON ORCHESTRA. With both orchestras he has performed on television, at concerts, and made recordings. In 1999, he founded the Publishing Company. In 2001 he founded the "AVJ" Agency.

He moderates* on Czech Radio 2 at the Prague Station, always "Play for us, Trumpets." As a Guest Director he goes throughout the Czech lands and abroad, directing his father's compositions and his own, arrahging seminars aobut his father's most famous song, "Beer Barrel Polka."

On 21 March 2002, Josef Vejvoda was given an experience totally unique: on the day of the 100th anniversary of his father Jaromír`s birthday at Carnegie Hall in New York, Josef directed his father`s world-famous polka "Škoda lásky" (Roll Out the Barrel) at the performance of the Castle Guard and Police Band of the Czech Republic.
